Rules Were Meant to be Broken

When you decide to “break a fashion rule, only break one rule at a time. Make the rest of your look timeless. This is the easiest way to start breaking into new territory. You will have confidence from wearing what you know is right and feel stylish because you have added a bit of spontaneity!

a. When trying out any of the examples in point #3, try each of them with a plain black t-shirt and plain flat front black pants.

b. BONUS: If your boyfriend insists on wearing flannels that are older than the abacus, just get him a comfortable robe to wear instead. For my geek, I opted for the Nautica, navy blue, long, terry robe.

Clothes older than the abacus: My other, not better, half had Madras plaid “walking” shorts that were older than the abacus and not as good looking. He wore them until they literally became so raggedy that they couldn’t be worn outside the house. One day I showed him these “rags”, told him it was time for the shorts to go to Madras Plaid heaven, and ripped them up so he could never wear them anywhere again. He’s one of those guys who wouldn’t be caught dead shopping and would be walking around naked without his better half picking up the slack.

Regarding breaking fashion “rules” I wear what are called “updated classics” which I “heat up” with costume jewelry, silk scarves or shoes. I get to be as “trendy” as I want without spending a great deal of money and I don’t feel guilty about getting ride of outdated accessories. As for shoes, they don’t call me “Imelda” at hoe for no reason.
