E-Mail:

Interface is a big deal to me

Trying a new interface. I personally really dislike the way wordpress looks as I first sign in to blog. So much so - it has actually detered me from blogging. Chris has been kind enough to post a few things on my behalf as I’ve been in a non- blogging mood. (Thanks Babe!) He’s also helped me find a few other tools to blog “through” so I don’t have to log into Wordpress.

There’s only one real reason why I’ve switched over - Chris switched me -I will admit it’s helping with the spam situation. I also didn’t like any of the premade templates for wordpress. Chris worked the current one up. It’s not what I’d want ultimately but definitely better than the last few I tried.

What do ya’ll think?

I’m trying out BlogDesk. I like the clear view so far. I especially like that the focus is on what I’m writing and not all the extra clutter on the sides and top. I also like that there is no color to distract me.

Better. I see I also have a little w.bloggar icon too on my desktop. Chris must have put that on here as well. I’ll try it next.

What do you all use for a portal?

I have tried w.bloggar for a while now. Its ok, but I find that its quite complicated and the interface looks “busy”. After having read Chris’s post on Windows Live Writer Beta, I was too curious and had to have a look.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has a wonderful interface, very nice and simple. It works across different blogging platforms, Wordpress, Movable Type. I am going to give that a go for a while. It looks promising.

It’s amazing how accustomed we get to interfaces - I can’t stand wordpress, though it’s workable. I’m using Expression Engine now and I like the robustness, though the dashboard isn’t anything to take screenshots of.

I’m thinking of trying Writely to see how posting through that goes.

[...] I’m blogging enough now that I’ve got to get away from the WordPress.com editing interface for no other reason than to optimize my time. Reading Ponzi’s entry made me think, you know what… I wasting time again! No more. [...]

I use the firefox extention, Performancing. Check it out, its really lightweight and easy to use:

I haven’t tried BlogDesk, but I’ve used w.Bloggar in the past and I liked it.

Have you checked out http://themes.wordpress.net/ to download WordPress Themes? They have hundreds, and it seems there’s 10-20 more new ones on the front page each day. The only unfortunate part is that I’ve sound the site is a bit SLOW to load. But I’ve found some really great templates on there! Hope that might help you out.

I have multiple blogs, mostly WordPress. Have tried other tools like performancing but have returned to the WordPress interface as I like access to everything on the blog, not just posting.

There’s lost of themes. Just keep tweaking the one you have and you’ll get it the way you want.

I use TigerAdmin to change up the WordPress admin interface. It really does wonders. You can get it (or see it) here: http://orderedlist.com/articles/wordpress-administration-design-tiger/
